Partnership Announcement: ALMI Ethiopia and Local Universities

Bridging Research and Practice

ALMI Ethiopia is proud to announce formal research partnerships with three leading Ethiopian universities: Addis Ababa University, Haramaya University, and Bahir Dar University. These collaborations will strengthen the scientific foundation of our programs while providing valuable research opportunities for students and faculty.

Partnership Objectives

The university partnerships focus on several strategic areas:

Agroforestry Research

Joint research projects will investigate:

  • Optimal tree-crop combinations for different agroecological zones
  • Carbon sequestration potential of multistory agroforestry systems
  • Economic returns from diversified agroforestry enterprises

Soil Science

Collaborative soil research aims to:

  • Develop region-specific soil fertility management guidelines
  • Evaluate the long-term impacts of conservation agriculture
  • Create low-cost soil testing methodologies

Climate Adaptation

University researchers will contribute to:

  • Climate modeling for Ethiopian agricultural systems
  • Drought-resistant crop variety evaluation
  • Water harvesting technology optimization

Student Engagement

A key component of these partnerships is student involvement:

  • **Internship programs**: Graduate students conduct field research with ALMI Ethiopia
  • **Thesis support**: We provide research sites and data for student theses
  • **Field courses**: University classes use our demonstration sites for practical learning

Joint Publications

Research findings will be disseminated through:

  • Peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Policy briefs for government stakeholders
  • Practical guides for farmers and extension workers

Looking Forward

These partnerships represent ALMI Ethiopia's commitment to evidence-based programming. By combining academic rigor with on-the-ground experience, we can develop solutions that are both scientifically sound and practically applicable.

We welcome inquiries from additional universities interested in collaboration.
